Minister of Community Development and Social Welfare Madam Kampamba Mulenga has encouraged women to be innovative and take advantage of government programmes aimed at uplifting women’s participation in development and poverty alleviation in the country. The minister said that government is committed to improving lives of citizens especially women through the village banking programme and social cash transfer among other programmes the government is implementing across the country. She said that southern province is privileged because all the programmes under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare have already been flagged out the province.
The minister stated that away from the Farmer Input support programme, the government under the food security pack (FSP) scaling up the programme from 35,000 to 300,000 beneficiaries across the board where vulnerable but viable small scale farmers are assisted with farming inputs. Mulenga also said that the government has increased the number of beneficiaries under the social cash transfer has been increased from 635,000 to 1 million.
The minister was speaking on Wednesday when she paid a courtesy call at the southern province Minister’s office.
She also visited Women village banking groups in Batoka and Pemba. The Minister was happy with the progress that the Village Banking groups. The Minister encouraged the women to continue with the projects they are doing and that government will always help and give guidance.
