United Party for National Development (UPND) has welcomed the formation of a new political party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
The Movement for Democratic Change was launched yesterday in Lusaka and is headed by Former Finance Minister Felix Mutati.
UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka hopes the new party will find its space despite shrinking political freedom to roll out their agenda to the people.
However, Mr. Katuka says there is need for opposition political parties to work together in demanding for free, fair and credible elections, and restoration of the rule of law.
He told journalists the opposition should demand for an end to violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens and abuse of state police.
Mr. Katuka says there is also need for fairness in the manner in which the National Registration Department under Ministry of Home Affairs is registering citizens for national identity.
He alleged that his party has witnessed illegality involving issuance of five NRCs to one person which he feels forms part of the rigging process.
Mr. Katuka says he hopes and prays that MDC shall advance their cause towards making the lives of Zambians better.
