Gwembe Member of Parliament Malungo Chisangano has disclosed that the hunger situation in her Constituency has escalated with most of the families currently failing to afford decent meals.
Ms. Chisangano says reports she received over the weekend when she toured some parts of the Constituency indicate the need for government to immediately disburse relief food in the valley before people die of hunger.
She told journalists that the flash floods experienced earlier this year damaged crops in Gwembe leaving most of the families without food to sustain for a long time.
Ms. Chisangano says there is need for the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to periodically send relief food to the people of Gwembe to cushion the situation.
She explains that currently a bucket of maize weighing about 16.5kgs is sold between K50 and K100 and most of the families cannot afford the prices.
Ms. Chisangano has since urged government to quickly move in and ensure people from the valley are assisted with food.
