The New Heritage Party says it agrees with President Edgar Lungu’s statement during his State of the Nation Address on Friday 12th February 2021 that the 2021 elections must be held in a peaceful environment.
Party Spokesperson Mr. Samuel Kasankha, tells Choma Maanu Radio Station that Elections are about guaranteeing Zambians their inalienable right to vote or be voted for in elective positions in the run up to and beyond the elections.
Kasankha says that Zambians have the right to freely participate in the public affairs of their nation and to the freedom of association which is provided for in the constitution and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) to which Zambia is a party.
New Heritage Party spokesperson also stated that the party is concerned that despite calls for an end to political violence, the scourge has continued unabated with no notable consequences for perpetrators of violence. He said that there is clearly no respect for the directives issued by the Head of
State either within or outside his own party which arguably has the highest numbers of cadre wings.
Mr. Kasankha also noted that it’s sad that the police appear too intimidated to rein in the offenders leading to the current state in our nation. He said that the ruling PF have voted to instil fear into and reticence by Zambians to exercise their rights.
