Southern province minister honorable Edify Hamukale has cautioned senior party officials from both the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND) party officials that are going against the presidential directives in the fight against COVID-19.
Dr. Hamukale says that he has received reports from members of the public and the authority on people that are grouping for drinking sprees using political expediency.
The minister has warned that whoever is going to be found wanting, the law will visit them regardless of their political affiliation. He singled out Monze and Mazabuka as places where these complaints and reports are coming from.
Hamukale also applauded southern province for being compliance in the fight against COVID-19. He has said that almost every trading place has a hand washing facility as directed by the government. However the minister stated that very few house households have these facilities he has called on families to put up preventive measures to insure that everyone visiting is sanitized before getting any physical contacts.
The minister was speaking yesterday at the Choma Municipal when he received a donation from German International Cooperation (GIZ.)
Handing over the donation, GIZ representative and Adviser for local government GIZ Mr. Theo Julius Goedderz stated that the local authorities are one of the key players at local level in the effort in the efforts to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19. Mr. Goedderz also said that Local Authorities are responsible for hygiene and safety of the trading space and living environments.
And Choma town mayor his warship Javen Simoloka thanked GIZ and has assured the minister that people in the villages will get equal share of the items donated.
The Mayor also emphasized the requisite to put away politics and join hands in the fight against COVID-19. Simoloka explained this is the time that nation must unite and put aside politics.
Also southern Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Mwangala Liomba warned the local authority not to misuse these donations as they will be audited. He has urged the council to take accountability of everything that is being donated.
The German International Cooperation (GIZ.) has donated 600 bottles of Hand sanitizer for Choma, 360 for Namwala, 360 to Sinazongwe.
Other items include 160/5 litres Containers of disinfectants, 3,500 face masks 1,600 Latex cloves, 1,440 Liquid and hand wash, water drums and 15 sprayers. The total value of the items donated is K 700, 000.
