Chief Chona applauds government for embarking on the mobile N R C issuance.

CHIEF Chona of the Tonga speaking people of Monze District has commended the government for embarking on the mobile National Registration Card issuance saying the move would enable many people acquire the national document in his chiefdom without hindrances.
And Monze District Commissioner Mrs Munachoongo Muleya says it was pure and cheap propaganda for some opposition political leaders to continue misleading the public that the mobile issuance exercise in the District unsuccessful and marred with unnecessary delays.
Speaking when Home affairs Minister Mr. Stephen Kapyongo paid a courtesy call on him yesterday, Chief Chona noted that a number of people including youths in his area such as Nadongo and Moomba faced challenges in accessing the National document which was an entitlement for every Zambian.
His Royal Highness said every well- meaning Zambians should commend government for this noble job aimed at giving eligible citizens the national document.
Chief Chona who also said the mobile issuance of NRC s was going one well in the District added traditional leaders would continue to pester government on many other developmental projects to improve people’s lives.
“ I must commended government for this NRC mobile issuance which I believe would enable many of my people in areas such Nadongo and Moomba to have this important document,” said Chief Chona.
Mr. Kapyongo assured the chief of government’s unwavering support to developmental issues and commitment to addressing myriad of challenges faced by people not only in Monze but across the country.
He said the ruling (Patriotic Front) government recognizes that it cannot deliver meaningful development with the active participation of traditional leaders.
“I wish to state that as government we do realise that we cannot deliver development to people without your support and participation and this is why the PF government will always engage traditional rulers in many developmental facets,” said Mr. Kapyongo.
And during the tour of the mobile NRC issuance centres at Monze Town Basic and Chona Primary schools, Mr. Kapyongo interacted with the people and advised them to be truthfully in giving information to officers.
He also urged the officers to be remain focused, vigilant and ensure that only eligible Zambians are given the national document.
“ So far Iam happy that work is going on smoothly on the ground but I just want to urge you to remain focused, vigilant and ensure that only eligible Zambians are given this document. To you the people, I want to ask you to be truthful in the information you are giving these officers so that we get the correct and accurate information because if you give us false information you might face serious problems in future when you use your NRC,” said Mr. Kapyongo.
And Mrs Muleya said the NRC mobile issuance exercise was going on very well in the District adding that the opposition politicians should stop spreading falsehoods for the sake of politicking.
She said contrary to some false media reports peddled by some people, the exercise has received overwhelming response from eligible people in the District and that she was closely monitoring the exercise saying everything was going on smoothly.
Mrs Muleya added that opposition politicians are also availed the schedule of the mobile NRC team and that they even have an input in the timetable for movements for officers.
She noted that there were some delays in commencing the exercise but that officers were now on the ground issuing new and replacing old NRCs across the District.
But she added if there would be any opportunity for an extension, Monze District should be considered due to growing population and demand for the national document.
The mobile NRC issuance exercise started in September, 2020 and is expected to run for 40 days.
Meanwhile, Mrs Muleya has requested the Ministry of Home affairs drill commercial boreholes at Monze Correctional Facility to facilitate large scale crop irrigation and generate revenue for operations.
The District Commissioner also there was urgent need to fence off the entire facility to prevent encroachment on the institution’s land.
And Mr. Kapyongo said government is committed to improve the welfare of men and women in uniform through various measures such as construction of decent houses to motivate them.
