The Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ), has handed over 9 Land Cruisers and a speed boat to the Ministry of Health.
The vehicles will be distributed to selected District offices.
The vehicles were being used under the safe Motherhood 360 plus project under CHAZ.
Speaking during the event, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary-Technical Services, Dr Kennedy Malama said Government recognizes the role that CHAZ plays in reducing maternal deaths especially in hard to reach areas.
And Dr. Malama pointed out that in the last few years, the country has made tremendous progress in the reduction of maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates, citing the active participation of stakeholders such as CHAZ.
The Permanent Secretary was however quick to mention that more needs to be done to achieve zero maternal and child morbidity by 2030.
Dr. Malama has since urged provincial health directors to which the transport will be distributed, to ensure they provide insurance and maintenance.
Meanwhile, CHAZ Executive Director Karen Sichinga said her association remains optimistic that Zambia will zero rate mother and neonatal mortality by the year 2030.
She added that CHAZ has made a lot of in-roads especially in rural areas in complementing Government’s efforts in ensuring that there is a downward trajectory of maternal and neonate deaths.
